The Big Give Christmas Challenge

Today is December 1st, marking the official start of the festive season. Admittedly my tree has already been up for a week and I've been making my way through the Costa Christmas drinks, but now I can finally indulge in the festivities guilt free! While we all know I won't commit to Blogmas, I have a few ideas for Christmas content throughout the month. Today, I want to share with you a festive campaign (not sponsored, just a good cause) in support of the wonderful charity School-Home Support.
This Christmas, almost 4 million children are living in poverty in the UK, a shocking reality for one of the most developed, wealthy countries in the world. For context, that's an average of NINE in EVERY classroom. For many of these children, Christmas isn't a time of extravagant celebrations but struggling with basic needs to survive.

School Home Support are a London based charity who work with disadvantaged families, helping to get "children in school, ready to learn". They place practitioners in schools, to support children facing issues like domestic violence, mental ill-health and poverty. The charity funds everything from school uniforms to food, helping young children to be better prepared and equipped for education. A donation of just £15 buys a new pair of school shoes for a child, and while this doesn't seem like much, it can make a huge difference in encouraging a child to regularly attend school and helping them fit in with their peers. Your donation could even go towards a washing machine to keep uniforms smart, or much needed beds so children are well rested for a busy school day.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK's largest online charity donation match campaign and runs until midday December 5th. Basically, every financial donation you make to School Home Support between now and then will be matched by a sponsor, meaning your contribution will be doubled at no extra cost to you. The challenge is only running until the 5th so please don't leave it too late to double donate! You can also get involved for free by signing up to Give As You Live, a toolbar that donates a percentage of your spend on sites like ASOS and Tesco to charity.

Take a look at the videos below to see for yourself how your support can help people like Jackie and James. If you'd like to get involved in the Christmas Challenge, check out The Big Give page where every donation is greatly appreciated. So next time you fancy a gingerbread latte and a mince pie, please consider donating the money to this great cause instead.
