Folks and Fables Cafe | Review

Folks and Fables is a brand new independent cafe and creative space in Bingham, Nottinghamshire. It's veggie/health based with ethically sourced produce, beautifully decorated (in a very 'instagram' fashion) and hosts creative writing classes in the upper level. The owner, Georgia Barnes, also happens to be my high school English teacher, who sparked my interest in journalism through our BBC School News Report project. ALL THE GREAT THINGS. Obviously I had to check it out immediately.

Folks and Fables is literature themed - hosting a menu named after classics, a book exchange and book club. The space upstairs also holds craft classes and sells artwork, prints, ceramics and jewellery by local independent artists. If you lost interest in any such hobbies since the release of Pokemon Go, fear not, the menu features a Pokemon Fruit Smoothie and a Pokestop is within range.

Impressively, the menu is predominantly vegan with vegetarian and gluten free options too. The food is ethically sourced and 1p from every sale goes to charity. It's nailing the healthy raw trend, but uses creative flavours like Folks Gold tumeric lattes to keep things super tasty. Even my mum (who is highly sceptical of my chia seeds and Linda McCartney sausages) thoroughly enjoyed "probably the healthiest thing I've ever eaten", a Dungeons and Dragons Smoothie Bowl. I opted for a Folks Waffle topped with frozen yoghurt, berries and syrup, washed down with a chai tea latte (bonus points for being served with a Lotus biscuit). Everything was so yummy we stayed for another round of drinks, a jelly & ice cream tea and an iced banana chai latte. Again, absolutely delicious.

The full food menu will be rolled out on August 1st. Breakfast hours will see smoothie bowls, fresh fruit, granola and waffles while lunchtime offers a Buddha Bowl salad bar, sweet jacket potatoes, soups and sourdough bread. It doesn't get much more 'food blogger' than this. I'll definitely be back to try everything on the entire menu more.
